Trick or Treat... Ghosts are about!!

Get ready for eerie, creepy and fun sounds!
We're getting ready for Halloween! This month, students from Mamie's Piano Studio are going to treat everyone to sounds of creepy footsteps, creaky doors, high-pitched and low-pitched scary sounds on the piano.

Halloween is a perfect time to learn more about dynamics (soft and loud sounds, crescendos, decrescendos (gradually getting louder/softer) , staccato, "hits" on the piano, and improvising on minor keys.

We'll learn a fun lick from  Addams Family Tune,  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6QzbvH-ZNo.  We'll take that lick and play it in several keys. This tune is a fun way to learn about the first five-finger notes of the major keys.  We will play the Addams Family tune, along with the snapping fingers, blowing horns, etc., at our October group class meeting, Monday, October 28, 6 p.m. All piano students can dress up!

Here is our group class picture from September.  The students played well, and had beautiful tone.  Thanks, Jennifer Stevens, for taking the picture!

In November we'll start preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas tunes and some of America's beloved hymns.  Happy practicing!

Mamie's Piano Studio Opens in Owensboro, KY!

Mamie’s Piano Studio has opened in Owensboro and is operated by Mary Farish. She offers beginning/intermediate piano lessons, including an emphasis on playing by ear and reading lead sheets to play jazz/rock/pop tunes.

Mary Farish received her music performance degree at Northern New Mexico College in in 2015 at the age of 59 years old.  “It was fun to go back to school in my 50’s and to learn how to be a student all over again,” she says. “This has given me more empathy and a better understanding for all the beginners in life, especially  beginner piano students!”  She believes it’s never too late to learn new things, and enjoys teaching adults as well as children how to play the piano.  Piano lessons are tailored to student’s favorite tunes, either by playing by ear, lead sheets, arranging, composition, accompanying singers, and playing with other musicians.  Her primary method book for children is Piano Safari for beginner students and Faber’s Studies and Upper Hands Piano for adults.”
In addition to her home piano studio, Mary is the piano accompanist at Blessed Sacrament Chapel in Owensboro.
