What has happened to sing-alongs?
When I was growing up with my family of six brothers and a sister, my dad would get out his guitar and mom would sing after the kitchen was cleaned up after supper. We were encouraged to learn a song and sing or play. I was fortunate because I knew how to play the piano. So Dad and I played and everyone sang. And of course, we had to practice before the singing, so that meant I got out of washing dishes! (Yes, we washed dishes by hand. Mom never understood why we needed a dishwasher when she had so many hands to wash up the dishes.)
This summer I'm putting together a family music journal of favorite tunes that my family likes to sing. We enjoy getting around the piano and belting out our favorite tunes! My sister asked me to learn Bohemian Rhapsody, Someone to Watch Over Me, It's a Sin to Tell a Lie, The Platters tunes: The Great Pretender, Only You, Smoke Gets inYour Eyes, American Pie, All of Me, At Last, Me and Bobby McGee, Old Broadway Tunes.
I'm getting a notebook, using Ultimate Guitar, Spotify family playlist, Youtube converter to mp3, Transcribe! and will check out tunes on IReal Pro.
Now... I guess we could turn on Youtube videos and sing karaoke. But playing instruments and singing the old fashion way is just a lot of laughter and fun!
